President Lincoln's Inaugural Ball

    On March 4, 2006, we attended the DuPage County Historical Society's Lincoln's Inaugural Ball.  This is an annual fundraiser to benefit the Historical Society.

    It was a wonderful evening, with Max and Donna Daniels providing the first person impressions of the president and Mrs. Lincoln.  The 33rd Illinois Volunteer Regimental Band provided period music for dancing, and dance master and mistress, Larry and Connie Wachtveitl, provided dancing instruction of Civil War dances, including the Virginia Reel (my favorite!).  There was food and a raffle too.

    This was my first ever Civil War Ball - something I've been dreaming of since childhood.  I wore a dress made by a very talented seamstress from Mississippi.  My friend and fellow Ladies Tea Guild member, Barb Z. was there too.
